The trainer stated that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump, keep his charge in 3rd/4th position and do his best in the straight. As per his observation the Jockey was at his charge from the word go but his charge did not have the speed as the front runners went at a good place and his horse could not keep up with the pace. In hind sight he felt that that distance of 1100 Metres was probably a trifle short and that he was satisfied with the riding of Jockey John. The rider when questioned while corroborating the statement of the trainer as regards riding instructions added that (a) his mount did not have initial speed in the race as such he could not ride from a forward position; (b) he was niggling his mount from the 900 Metres; (c) as the trainer had instructed him to ride hands and heels and used the whip sparingly as his mount was inclined to switch its tail.
