SEVENTH DAY, SATURDAY, 7TH JUNE 2014
41. The Chettinad Stud Plate - (About) 1400 Metres. For horses rated 40 to 65, 5 years old and over (Whips not allowed)
The Stipendiary Stewards completed the enquiry into the running and riding of CLUELESS (Arshad Alam) in this race. Evidence was taken from trainer Mr. Sriram Komandur and rider Arshad Alam. Mr. Komandur said he instructed Alam to sit 4th or 5th, and do his best in the straight. He added that he thought the gelding would win him three wins in a row. On returning to scale he asked Alam why he moved to the inside when CLUELESS had won his previous two races coming down the outside. Alam informed Mr. Komandur, as he did to the Stipendiary Stewards during the hearing, that he thought the horses in front were going to move out so he elected to shift to the inside that is when the horse commenced to race under his hands and heels riding. This being a no whip race.
When Jockey Alam was asked why he did not take a run on the inside of LADS GLADIATOR approaching the home turn. He said that as CLUELESS had won his last two races coming wide in the straight he felt that this would suit the horse more.
Although Jockey Arshad Alam's explanations were accepted and that he had
ridden the horse out strongly, he was informed that he must adapt to the manner
in which a race is run and show more initiative in future or action may be taken
against him.
