BANGALORE WINTER MEETING 2014-15

FOURTEENTH DAY, SATURDAY, 3RD JANUARY 2015

110. THE SPLENDID ROLE PLATE – DIV.II – (ABOUT) 1200 METRES. HANDICAP FOR HORSES RATED 20 TO 45.

The enquiry into the fall of STYLE N GRACE (Suraj Narredu) in the above race was concluded.

After questioning Jockey Suraj Narredu and viewing several CCTV angles no blame could be attributed to any rider.  It appeared that STYLE N GRACE fell of her own actions.

118: The Kitty Bank Plate – Div I – (About) 1400 Metres, horses rated 20 to 45, 5 years old and over at the time of starting.

Trainer Mr. G. Sandhu and Jockey R. Anand were questioned over the running and riding of COOLMORE in the above race.

Mr. Sandhu stated that it was the owners engaged Jockey R. Anand, he added that he would have preferred to engage a claiming apprentice and felt that the amount of dead weight required by R. Anand to make the 62.5 Kgs was a disadvantage.  He instructed Anand to sit 3rd or 4th position and to wait until the mare was balanced before riding her out in the straight.  Jockey Anand confirmed the instructions but said COOLMORE began awkwardly losing ground and he was unable to be in a forward position.  He added that coming to the 650 Metres he commenced to ride the mare along and took her wide near 500 Metres to obtain a clear run where he gave her two hits with the whip.  He further stated that COOLMORE commenced to tire near the 100 Metres.

After viewing the CCTV and from the evidence Jockey Anand was informed that he should have his mounts balanced before riding them with the whip.  He was instructed to attend the riding instruction and fitness classes organized by the B.T.C.

118. The Kitty Bank Plate – Div I – (About) 1400 Metres, horses rated 20 to 45, 5 years old and over at the time of starting.

The Stipendiary Stewards inquired into the improved performance of ARUN in the above race as compared to the horses previous run in Race No.82 of the Bangalore Winter Meeting 2014-15 i.e The Kudremukh Plate – Div I – (About) 1400 Metres, horses rated 20 to 45 when ridden by the same rider it ran unplaced.

Trainer Mr. J Babu Rao and Jockey A. Ashok Kumar were questioned. Trainer Mr. J Babu Rao said that ARUN is a lazy horse and that as jockey Ashok Kumar was not permitted to use the whip in race No. 82 on 19th December, 2014, the 8 year old gelding did not respond to his hands and heels riding. Jockey Ashok Kumar agreed with Mr. J Babu Rao adding that he positioned the horse in a similar position towards the rear of the field but ARUN responded to his vigorous riding with the availability of the whip in the above race indicating that the use of whip made the difference between the two runs. Their explanations were noted and accepted.

Trainer Mr. J Babu Rao was further informed to ensure that his charge ARUN is ridden in a similar manner henceforth.

Jockey A Ashok Kumar was informed that his riding style with the whip had greatly improved and he is expected to ride in this manner in future.
