BANGALORE WINTER MEETING 2014-15
NINTH DAY, SATURDAY, 13TH DECEMBER, 2014
67. The Bangarpet Plate – Div II – (About) 1200 Metres, horses rated 00 to 25.
The Stipendiary Stewards heard from owner Mr. R N. Vijaya Kumar and Trainer Mr. J S Pillay following a written complaint from them into the ride of Jockey Vivek on their horse REFORMER in the above race.
Evidence was taken, CCTV of this race and REFORMERS previous start on 14th November 2014 in Race No. 17 i.e The Chintamani Plate(About) 1200 Metres where the horse ran 4th ridden by Vivek. In that race Jockey Vivek had reported to the trainer and the Stipendiary Stewards that REFORMER laid in as stated in the race day report.
It was concluded from viewing the above mentioned CCTV of the races that Vivek had ridden REFORMER in a similar manner in both events and each occasion REFORMER had shifted in soon after the start racing intractably and laid ‘in’ in the straight.
Trainer Mr. J S Pillay was informed to rectify this trait in REFORMER.
88. The Chickmagalur Nirvanappa Shetty Nanjamma TMP Cup (About) 1800 Metres, horses rated 40 to 65.
The adjourned enquiry into the running and riding of TURF TACTICS in the above race was concluded.
Trainer Mr. Hidayat Khan stated that he instructed P.S. Chouhan to sit 5th or 6th do your best in the straight. When questioned, Jockey P.S. Chouhan said that the gelding jumped well and in an attempt to ride to his instructions he restrained his mount. However after travelling a short distance he was forced to ease when AZZURRO (P. Trevor) shifted in putting TURF TACTICS back to last place. He added that after easing from AZZURRO the horse failed to travel well and lost ground. After easing up at the bend he stated he felt the horse was not right and therefore he only kept niggling in the back stretch instead or urging the horse vigorously, as he wanted to give a chance for the horse to pick itself up and thereafter at the 650 Metres, he urged the horse to take the position, close to the winner. He stated that at the 500 Metres he was only 2½ lengths from AZZURRO the winner but TURF TACTICS did not respond as well as he would like despite his hard riding from the 650 Metres. He added that he would have preferred to have let the gelding round the 1600 Metres turn then obtained cover for the race until making the home turn.
Jockey P.S. Chouhan was told that when in a similar situation he would be expected to show more initiative to make contact with the field at an earlier stage in such an event and should also exhibit such efforts in trying to improve his position.
