Gentlemen,

 

On behalf of the Members of the Managing Committee of the Bangalore Turf Club Ltd., I have great pleasure in extending a warm welcome to all of you to this Press Conference.

 

I.          The Bangalore Summer Meeting 2014 will commence on Saturday, 24th May 2014 and will conclude on Friday, 8th August 2014.  Racing will be conducted over 24 days during the Meeting.  Racing will be held on Saturdays and Sundays except during the last two weeks.

III         GRADED/CLASSIC RACES:

 

(a)               Minimum prize money for Grade I, II and III had been fixed at Rs.50 lakhs, 20 lakhs and 15 lakhs respectively by the Indian Pattern Committee.

 

(b)               Added money and the guaranteed stakes for the classic races to be run during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2014 had been increased as detailed below:

V.         STAKE MONEY FOR ORDINARY RACES:

 

Stakes in ordinary races had been increased by 16.67%, as compared to the level of stakes paid during Bangalore Winter Meeting 2013-14, as detailed hereunder with stakes being allocated in the ratio of 79%, 12% and 9% in favour of Owners, Trainers and Jockeys respectively only for Bangalore Summer Meeting 2014, including sweepstake races (excluding classic races), in lieu of the earlier ratio of 82.5%, 10% and 7.5% respectively for Owners, Trainers and Jockeys:

VI.        INCENTIVES:

 

(a)               Incentives would be paid in respect of Bangalore based horses as under, as compared to the previous year:

 

Winner                  :           Rs. 28,000  (26,400)

Second                   :           Rs. 14,000  (13,200)

Third                      :           Rs. 7,000    (6,600)

Fourth                    :           Rs. 4,200    (3,960)

Fifth                       :           Rs. 2,800    (2,640)

Sixth                      :           Rs. 1,400    (1,320)

 

(b)               10% incentive would continue be paid on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th stakes earned in ordinary races during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2014 in respect of horses bred in Karnataka, as during the previous year.

 

(c)                20% incentive would continue to be paid on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th stakes earned in ordinary races during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2014 and it will be credited on a pro-rata basis to the concerned Owner/s of local horses, provided such Owner/s has/have no interest in more than five local horses excluding 2-year-olds (Foaled in 2012) owned either individually and/or jointly and/or by a syndicate, as during the previous year.

 

(d)               Additional incentive (summer incentive) of 15% on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th stakes earned in ordinary races during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2014 will be credited to the respective Owners Accounts in respect of local horses, as during the previous year.

 

VII.       SUBSIDY:

 

Following subsidies would be credited to the Accounts of the Owners concerned in respect of local horses who participate at least in two races during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2014:

 

(a)               Fodder Subsidy at Rs. 1,200 per bag of oats at the rate of 2.25 bags per horse per month for a maximum of four months on par with that was paid during the previous year.

 

(b)               Participation Subsidy at Rs. 2,000 per run per horse for a maximum of four runs on par with that was paid during the previous year.

 

(c)                Hay and Bedding Subsidy at Rs. 2,500 per horse per month for a maximum of four months, as against Rs. 1,500 per horse per month during the previous year.

 

(d)               Veterinary Subsidy at Rs. 3,000 per horse per month for a maximum of four months, as against Rs. 2,000 per horse per month during the previous year.

 

VIII.      TOTAL PAYOUT:

 

It is expected that pay out during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2014 would be around Rs. 21.00 crores for 210 races, covering 24 race days, as compared to Rs. 17.44 crores during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2013 for 213 races, covering 27 race days.

 

IX.        STABLING:

 

(a)               Under the local category, horses aged 3 to 8 years rated 00 and above will be eligible for allotment of stables

 

 

(b)               The following category of outstation horses will be eligible for allotment of stables:

 

(1)   All 3 and 4 year olds that are entered for Bangalore Summer Classics 2014 and not struck out till the date of stable allotment.

 

(2)   3 and 4 year olds that are entered for at least FIVE Sweepstakes races to be run during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2014.

 

(3)   Horses aged 3 to 8 years rated above 65.

 

(c)                However, outstation horses will not be permitted to participate in races earmarked for horses rated 00 to 25.

 

(d)               Horses aged 3 years and horses aged 4 to 6 years rated 50 and above will be entitled for permanent stabling subject to certain conditions, on the line permitted during the Bangalore Winter Meeting 2013-14.

 

(e)               Notwithstanding the above, horses which have not placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th in their last ten starts will not be allotted stables irrespective of whether they are local or outstation horses.

 

X          SPONSORSHIP:

 

(a)               THE KINGFISHER DERBY BANGALORE (GRADE I) will be sponsored as in last summer, with guarantee money of Rs. 250 lakhs, inclusive of the Club’s contribution of Rs. 60.00 lakhs, and an equal contribution of Rs. 60.00 lakhs by the sponsors.  It will be the second richest race in the year 2014, next only to Indian Derby.

 

(b)               The added money for the Fillies Championship Stakes (Grade I) and the Colts Championship Stakes (Grade I) will be Rs. 40.00 lakhs each, with guaranteed stake money of Rs. 50.00 lakhs.  These races are expected to garner total stakes in excess of Rs. 75.00 lakhs each.

 

(c)                The Club is making efforts to source new sponsors.

 

XI.        GENERAL:

 

(a)               An Ozone plant has been installed to treat and maximize purity of water in the equine swimming pool at the Club.

 

(b)               Existing railings are to be replaced with Premier Race Railings manufactured by M/s. Barriers International ( India ) Pvt. Ltd. to enhance the level of safety during races for riders and horses.

 

(c)                A giant video screen would be in operation on all Bangalore Race Days.

 

(d)               In the absence of timely rains, the race track was not conducive for racing for the first two race days i.e. Saturday, 17th and Sunday, 18th May 2014 and consequently, first two race days of the season were cancelled.

 

 

(e)               585 betting terminals are currently in operation, including 125 betting terminals being operated at off-course betting centres. 

 

(f)                 Towards popularizing totalisator operations, functioning of bookmakers will be restricted only to the first enclosure and 50 additional betting terminals will be deployed in the second enclosure by 15th June 2014.

 

(g)               Alongside, gross deductions at the totalisators in respect of Forecast, Quinella and Trinalla pools have been reduced from 44% to 27.1% on par with the Exacta Pool and the Mini Jackpot pool stands discontinued with effect from 24th May 2014.

 

(h)               Alongside, gross deductions at the totalisators in respect of Win, Place and Second Horse pools have been reduced from 12.75% to 12.25% with effect from 24th May 2014.

 

(i)                 Roofing in the enclosures has been replaced to improve aeration and flooring in the first enclosure has been concreted to facilitate smooth passage of patrons.

 

(j)                 A Kannada version of the prospectus has been published for the first time.  A copy of the same could be obtained from the office.

 

(k)                Rating book will be published before the commencement of the meeting as in the past.

 

(l)                 The Club would be meeting the financial expenditure in respect of treatment of Jockey S.Chandrashekar to an extent of Rs. 13.00 lakhs.

 

XII.       APPOINTMENT OF MR. WAYNE WOOD:

 

Mr. Wayne Wood who has been appointed as Chief Stipendiary Steward and Director of Racing brings with him a number of years of experience as a professional Steward in Australia , including 8 years as a Stipendiary Steward and 10 years as Chairman of the Stewards.
