Gentlemen,

On behalf of the Members of the Managing Committee of the Bangalore Turf Club Ltd., I have great pleasure in extending a warm welcome to all of you to this Press conference.

        I.            The Bangalore Summer Meeting 2016 will commence on Saturday 14th May, 2016 and will conclude on Friday 5th August 2016. Racing will be conducted over 26 days during the meeting. Racing will be held on Saturdays and Sundays except during the last week.

III.           GRADED/CLASSIC RACES AND SPONSORSHIP

(a)    Added money and the guaranteed stakes for the classic races to be run during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2016 has been increased as detailed below:

(b)   THE KINGFISHER DERBY BANGALORE (GRADE I) will be sponsored by M/s United Breweries for the 29th year continuously. This year the added money would be Rs.1.5 crores inclusive of the club’s contribution of Rs.75 lakhs and an equal contribution of  Rs.75 lakhs by the sponsor. With the Club guaranteeing a total stakes of Rs. 2.5 crores, it will be the second richest race in the year 2016, next only to the Indian Derby.

 

(c)    The added money for the Fillies Championship stakes (Grade I) and the Colts Championship Stakes (Grade I) will be Rs 50.00 lakhs each. These races are expected to garner total stakes in excess of Rs.75.00 Lakhs each.

 

(d)   THE BANGALORE ST.LEGER (GRADE II) which was confined to four year old horses all these years, will be open to older horses also in addition to Four-year-olds from this Summer meeting. Incidentally this is the first St. Leger in the country which is open to older horses.

IV.          SWEEPSTAKE  RACES:

(a) Added Money has been increased by 20% as compared to Bangalore Summer Meeting 2015 in respect of all Sweepstake Races .

(b) In addition to the existing Sweepstake races three more Sweepstake Races have been framed  during the meeting namely:

                                (i)  THE KRISHNARAJA WADIYAR CUP for 4 years old and upwards over 1600 metres.

(ii) THE RACING PATRONS CUP for 4 years old and upwards over 1200 metres.

(iii) THE MYSTICAL MILLION for Maiden horses 3 years old only over 1600 metres.

VI            INCENTIVES:

(a)    Performance linked incentives in respect of Bangalore based horses has been increased by 40% as compared to the previous year:

(b)   10% incentive would continue to be paid on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th   stakes earned in ordinary races during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2016 in respect of horses bred in Karnataka, as during

the previous year.

 

(c)    20% incentive would continue to be paid  on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th   stakes earned in ordinary

races during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2016 and it will be credited on a pro-rata basis to the concerned owner/s of local horses, provided such owner/s has/have no interest in more than five local horses excluding 2-year-olds (Foaled in 2014) owned either individually and /or jointly and /or by a syndicate, as during the previous year.

 

(d)   Additional incentive (Summer Incentive) of 15% on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th   stakes earned in ordinary races during Bangalore summer meeting 2016 will be credited to the respective owners Account in respect of local horses, as during the previous year.

 

(e)   However, horses aged 4 years old and over which have not raced since 1st May 2015 and horses aged 4 years old and over which have not placed First, Second, Third or Fourth in their last ten starts will not be eligible for above incentives.

VII.         TOTAL PAYOUT:

It is expected that pay out during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2016 would be around Rs. 25 crores for 220 races, covering 26 race days, as compared to  Rs.19.58 crores during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2015 for 195 races, covering 24 race days.

VIII           STABLING:

(a)    Local horses aged 3 to 8 years rated 00 and above will be eligible for allotment of stables.

(b)   The following category of outstation horses will be eligible for allotment of stables for Bangalore Summer Meeting 2016.

                       I.     All 3 and 4 year olds that are entered for Bangalore Summer Classics 2016 and not struck out till the date of stable allotment.

                     II.     3 and 4 year olds that are entered for at least Three Sweepstakes Races to be run during Bangalore Summer Meeting 2016.

                   III.     Horses aged 3 to 8 years rated above 65.

 

(c)    Outstation horses will not be permitted to participate in races earmarked for horses rated 00 to 20

(d)   Outstation horses aged 3 years which have won at least one race and horses aged 4 to 6 years rated 50 and above will be entitled for permanent stabling under the charge of “A” Licensed Trainers, subject to certain conditions.

(e)   However, service charge for non-participation in respect of outstation horses has been made more liberal to the effect that it will be levied only if such horses fail to run at least twice as compared to last summer when outstation horses had to run at least thrice to avoid service charge.

X.            Restructuring of the rating system:

(a)    Overall Rating scale has been compressed to about 55 kgs.

(b)   Races have been restructured by reducing each handicap race to 10 kgs ranging from 50 to 60 kgs as detailed below:

XI.        Totalizators:

I am very happy to inform our patrons that:

(a)    The Club commission on win and place pools have been reduced by 0.5% with effect from 14th May, 2016.

(b)   The Government of India has increased the limit for TDS on winnings in horse racing from Rs. 5000/- to 10000/- with effect from 1st June, 2016.

XII.         GENERAL:

(a)    The weighing room and the jockeys’ room have been renovated and upgraded with a view to providing better facilities for jockeys and officials.

(b)   Live streaming of Bangalore Races can be watched on www.bangaloreraces.com on pay per race day basis at Rs. 200/-. Existing practice of availing live streaming on payment of annual subscription amount of Rs. 4,500/- will continue.

(c)    A giant video screen would be in operation on all Bangalore Race Days.

(d)   640 betting terminals are currently in operation, including 115 betting terminals being operated at nine off-course betting centres.

(e)   Rating book will be published before the start of the season.

(f)     20 Bookmakers will be in operation in First Enclosure and 3 in the second enclosure.
